Top scorer leaves for Crewe

ECFC's joint top scorer for the season, (left back!) Billy Jones, has joined Crewe Alexandra for a fee of around £50,000. Jones is following in the steps of full back Danny Woodards who earlier this season also left ECFC for Crewe.

The fee is expected to rise to £65,000 depending on appearances and a sell-on clause has also been agreed. Furthermore, the fee could rise again if Jones scores 25 goals in a season, wins European Player of the Year, or if Crewe win the Champions League.

Manager Paul Tisdale said "I'm sorry to see a player of Billy's calibre go, but the release clause meant we had to listen to the offer." Incidentally, if there are any large media organisations out there looking for a roving sports editor/reporter/dictator, I also have a special clause and would be available for a sum of considerably less than £50k. In fact, an offer of ANY annual salary would mark a significant increase.
