Sports day

21/03/10 - 1 comment

For a few hours today, Exeter's Arena sports stadium was full to capacity* with residents and people from as far away as Tiverton, raising money for Sport Relief.

In all there were three races starting at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am, each could be run as a 1, 3 or 6 miles, and there were some interesting entrants.

At one point Danger-mouse and an elephant were tangoing around the track, followed by some ballroom dancers doing it with more style, but that's probably easier when you're not wearing an elephant costume.

Our favourite entrant was a guy who turned up to do the mile in jumping stilts, but respect has to be paid to all the kids who got off their arses and ran a mile to make a difference. And they say kids are all sitting at home playing on their consoles these days.

The Met office hadn't predicted rain for the day, so everyone was on edge, waiting for the downpour, but it was actually a really nice day for it and loads of money was raised for charity. Job done.

* The stadium was far from a capacity crowd, but most people were on the track anyway, so it probably doesn't matter.
