Council had pilfered silver

11/10/06 - 0 comments

Whilst cleaning out council offices, Babs Tolley, the Devon County Council’s Support Officer for Children and Young People’s Services found the long lost Exeter Schools Challenge Shield dating back to 1892.

Schools had competed for the shield every year until 1940, when there was a 7-year break in competition, and after 1 year back in service the shield mysteriously disappeared.

Now after nearly 60 years accumulating dirt and grime in a back room, the council have 'kindly' agreed to return the shield, which no longer fits the club’s trophy cabinet.

Councillor Westlake also turned up to the presentation back to the club, as he isn't one to miss a photo opportunity.
