There's only one team in Devon

Both Exeter Rugby and Football sides ensured a merry festive season for the City by recording derby victories. The Chiefs saw off Plymouth Albion at Sandy Park whilst ECFC looked set to get in the festive spirit by stuffing the torkey.

It was shortly before Xmas that Exeter Chiefs held out a nervy finish to record an 11-10 victory over Plymouth Albion, with Albion fly-half Ross Laidlaw missing a last minute penalty. Yet the ECFC vs Torquay encounter on Boxing Day proved to be an even tenser affair. Goals by Mackie and Moxey in the first-half, together with a Carlisle strike 10 minutes after half-time ensured a 3-1 lead. But shortly after, torkey cheat Tim Sills threw himself to the floor after a coming together with City defender Seaborne who was inexplicably sent off.

Replays have shown there was almost no contact between the players and the reason for Sills ridiculous collapse are still unknown. Perhaps too many Brussels sprouts on Christmas Day had made his body frail and full of shit, but City will be buoyed by the fact that they were still able to defeat the torkeys with only 10 men. Despite the sending off ECFC held on to record a valuable 4-3 victory and close the gap on the play-off places.
