Hat-trick causes financial problems

11/10/07
A superb hat-trick by ECFC top-scorer Richard Logan helped City to a 4-2 home victory over Salisbury Tuesday evening. Whilst the win continues to build momentum for Logan and ECFC who are starting to find promising form, the performance may have come at a cost.

It is traditional for strikers who score a hat-trick to keep the match ball, but ECFC's second home win in a week has raised costs in the form of win bonuses, clean-sheet bonuses for the 1-0 victory over Grays, and goal scoring bonuses. After a dour start to the season, these unsuspected rewards are starting to affect the club accountant's projected outgoings.

All of which may mean the hat-trick ball may need to be held on to by the club, especially due to the large number of match balls lost by way of being booted out of the ground by the players.
