A return for greyhound racing?

01/10/07 - 0 comments

After a blistering length of the field interception try by Exeter Chiefs' Josh Drauniniu on Saturday, club officials are considering once again using their stadium for Greyhound racing.

Exeter rugby fans familiar with the old County Ground will remember the dank, sandy area surrounding the pitch which supplied the track for both Speedway and Greyhound racing. However, as many of the greyhound races turned out to be as fixed as a Don King fight, and with attendances reducing to the point of there being more dogs than people present, Greyhound racing was removed from Exeter's sporting calendar.

However, after viewing Drauniniu's scorching 60 yard dash in the 27-6 victory over Bedford at the weekend, officials are considering bringing back Greyhound racing with the traditional stuffed rabbit bait attached to the wingers' heels. One source close to the club said "This could bring some real excitement to the proceedings, and add a couple of metres pace for Josh."
