Chiefs use all their tribe in opener

03/09/07 - 0 comments

Exeter Chiefs opened their National League One campaign with a comprehensive home victory over the toothless Sedgley Park Tigers, and almost all of the Chiefs squad managed to get a run out on the opening day.

As one of the pre-season favourites for the League title, the Chiefs have a great deal of expectation on their shoulders and they started the match nervously, giving away frequent kickable penalties in the early stages. But with the home fans behind them and an increasingly dominant pack, the Chiefs soon settled down before steamrollering the opposition in a seven try romp which finished 48-11.

The only downside of the day came as a result of some Tisdale-esque substitution gaffes. The Chiefs management managed to field eight replacements throughout the course of the match and as a result were forced to finish with only 14 players on the pitch.

After several replacement misjudgements in both Exeter Rugby and Football matches of late, it is hoped that Exeter Uni will soon be putting the finishing touches to their new course, entitled "The Correct Deployment Of Substitutions - And How Not To Misuse Them".
