Toothless display leaves City hungry for points

29/08/07 - 0 comments

After a promising away win at Droylsden on Saturday, ECFC squandered the chance to go back to the top of the Conference by only managing a goalless draw at home against 10-man Weymouth.

City's 3-2 away victory against Conference new-comers Droylsden included the first professional brace for midfielder Dean Moxey, with Lee Elam nodding in the third in injury time. But with the strikers displaying all the killer instinct of a vegan on valium against a Weymouth side who had midfielder Marcus Browning sent off with over half an hour left on Monday, manager Paul Tisdale must have some cause for concern.

The necessity of a 15-20 goal a season striker is pretty much essential for any club hoping for a promotion push, and a glaring omission in the current ECFC squad over the last few years. Last season's top scorer was left-back (!) Billy Jones who departed for Crewe in the summer, whilst the top scoring striker Lee Phillips has also left the club with Steve 'Bash the' Bisham transferred in from Oxford in an attempt to bolster the strike force. Rumours that Steve Flack is to be drafted in as the new forward's coach are as yet unconfirmed.
