Sun worshippers save Christmas

22/11/11 - 0 comments

After the City Council decided to cancel Christmas, renewable energy firm Sun Gift Solar have stepped up and their engineers have been out in force erecting the Christmas lights ready for Thursday's switch-on.

Exeter City Council decided that funds for the lights should be sidelined for the councillors chocolate biscuit fund, or more likely a new accounts department to decide what other public services the council can cut, and advised retailers that they would have to foot the bill this year or face having no Christmas lights at all this year.

Sun Gift Solar came forward and have supplied technicians to do all the legwork in erecting the lights, with other local businesses helping to fund equipment and putting forward a promotional campaign.

Gemini Heart FM will be in attendance doing their usual nonsense from 5:30 to till 6:30 when the lights will actually be turned on, although it's unclear at this point if there will be the usual fireworks spectacular that is the actual reason so many of us turn up for this event.

We also don't know whether or not Sun Gift Solar will be providing the power for the lights, but it should be obvious if they all go off once the sun goes down.

** Update **
@ExeterCCM has since confirmed there won't be any fireworks this year due to the old Debenhams building not being available as a launch site. John Lewis had better put on a pretty fucking spectacular display next year...
