225 Police accidents last year make force feel sheepish

27/05/10 - 0 comments

Devon and Cornwall Police have released record showing more than 200 of their cars have been involved in accidents last year which had "not involved other vehicles or people".

Figures obtained by ThisIsExeter under their favourite lazy news source (the Freedom of Information Act) show that over the last 3 years over 700 incidents occurred, although these figures include minor scrapes to wheel trims and chips to windscreens.

Slightly more concerning however, are the reasons that were give for some of the accidents. These include being "distracted by sheep by the side of the road" and that a "badger walked into road in front of police".

Some accidents are unavoidable, but these just sound like officers driving without due care and attention. Very naughty indeed. Other accidents recorded include reversing over a stab vest, and a vehicle being hit by a seagull.

The fleet drives over 21 million miles each year, so we're told, so there are bound to be a few bumps and scrapes in the process, but the important point here is... Ooh look, sheep!
