LandSecurities to paint Blue Boy red
2 commentsLandSecurities, owners of the Princesshay site and pretty much the rest of Exeter city centre, have announced on their website that they are planning on painting the famous Blue Boy statue red to match the Grecian's colours.
The Blue Boy is a throwback to the old English Free School, which was on the site in the 1630's and who's uniform was a blue cap and gown.
The statues made at the time were stone, although one is known to have misplaced it's head. In the 1860's when the school was rebuilt, four cast iron statues were created, although 2 were thought lost. One of the 'Blue Boys' was placed at the entrance to the school's main hall, which was roughly where the blue boy stands now.
We urge you to write to your MP and let them know we won't take this lying down. They can take our town centre and turn it into a clone shopping centre, but they cannot take our Blue Boy away and paint him fancy colours. It simply won't do.
