Council change toilet habits in major loo-turn

03/02/10 - 1 comment

In a brave move, Liberal Democrat councillors have admitted they were wrong and turned around their decision to close 10 of Exeter's public toilets.

Following a public outcry, council leader Adrian Fullam announced on twitter that the toilets would not be closing after all, and would remain a safe(ish) haven for dogging and drug use throughout the city.

The council have clawed back the cash required to run the loos by decreasing the amount earmarked for council workers pay increases from a 1% increase to a 0.7% increase.

Noticeable is that the money has come from council workers. Does this include the councillors themselves, or is it simply the rabble who will be affected by this move?

Either way, this is probably a much better reactive decision than either Labor or the Tories would have made in the same situation.

In fairness, this is about the only level of authority those yellows could operate at if pigs did indeed sprout wings and fly.
