Exeter's 'Don't be a prick' campaign
0 commentsAn Exeter road safety campaigner is asking for the BBC to tell people not to drive like a prick before episodes of Top Gear.
The woman, who tragically lost her only son in a car crash around 40 years ago, wants the BBC to add a health warning, advising viewers not to behave like idiots in their own cars.
After raising concerns with Ben Bradshaw, the now Secretary of State for culture, media and sport, she was eventually referred to the BBC. They have now registered her request on the audience log and said that producers would ask the staff if they minded...
You can be sure to see this mentioned on the show next week as the boys will probably have heard about it by then. You can imagine how well it will go down.
Echo readers seem to agree that this is completely over the top. All of the comments so far think this is a further step towards a nanny state that we really don't need.
People can be idiots, and people can have accidents. Either way, telling them not to behave like dicks before a TV show is likely to have very little impact. You may as well include a leaflet stuck to the steering wheel of all cars that says 'Don't drive dangerously'.
