RD&E wants your children

08/10/09 - 0 comments

Doctors at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital are asking people from Exeter if they can have a loan of their kids for a little bit of medical experimentation.

Swine flu is the flavour of the day, and doctors at the RD&E are looking to get hold of around 80 children aged between six months and 12 years old to test the effectiveness of new flu vaccines.

There are two vaccines which have already been tested on adults, but the effect on children are not currently known.

Sure we can see that testing these things is clearly important if there is to be an end to this slightly irritating disease would you give up your first born for tests to find any as-yet unknown side-effects?

Dr Andrew Collinson, a consultant paediatrician at the RD&E who's picture in the Echo eerily reminds us of the Child Catcher, said that "Taking part in this study is voluntary and if parents do not want their child to participate they would still be eligible to receive a swine flu vaccine if it were to become available as part of a government immunisation programme.

"There would be 24-hour telephone access to a paediatrician if there were any concerns following immunisation."

Surely this is what chav babies are for.
