Dakar or bust

30/09/09 - 3 comments

Many people find travelling to foreign countries a pain in the ass and anything that can help ease the process is welcomed, but not these guys.

Chris and Andrew are planning to take their car, bought for £80 off a man in Cornwall, from it's current home in Exeter, to an auction in Dakar, where it will be sold to raise money for local charities in the Gambia.

Now this isn't the first time folk from Exeter have decided to get a cheap car and attempt to drive half way around the planet, but on a fifth of the budget this has got to be hard.

The route they have planned is over 3000 miles and will take them through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania including 300 miles over the Sahara Desert and finally into Senegal for a well earned rest.

Along the way they plan to raise as much money as possible for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. You can sponsor them on their Just Giving page and if you include a guess of how far you think their trip will be in total in Kilometers you could win a stay at Bovey Castle.

They're due to head off on the 11th December so head over to their website and show them some support.

Is the car going to be in any fit state to sell, after driving all that way and across a dessert?!

it won't be in a fit state if they drive it over a blancmange, but I think they might be able to if it's cheesecake, got more structural rigidity to it.
