Police launch nosy neighbour charter
0 commentsPolice are green-lighting a scheme for residents to monitor the speed of passing motorists with speed cameras only a month after a scarecrow was arrested for doing exactly the same.
Police are asking residents to check the speeds of vehicles using speed guns, although they will have no powers to enforce the speed limits whatsoever.
They will be taking the makes, models and number-plates of passing cars and strongly worded letters will be sent out explaining the dangers of speeding.
All this comes after Cheshire police warned Christopher Strong, who had created a scarecrow with a speed camera, that he could be arrested for impersonating a police officer as people may break sharply and cause an accident. Apparently local citizens doing the same thing is not a concern for the boys in blue down here.
The scheme will be launching in Alphington and if proven successful will be rolled out across the rest of the city.
