Sci-fi kids names, what were you thinking?

06/07/09 - 1 comment

For the Sci-fi fan there's always a temptation to name your offspring after your favourite character, but at what point should you draw the line?

I'm sure there are many James Tiberius Kirk's out there, maybe even a few Anakins about, but please, for the love of Lucas, please don't name your kids after the aliens.

This morning the Echo reports the sorry tale of Exeter mum Cherie Reed, who's situation is unenviable. The paper shows a picture of her holding her one-year-old son Rya'c, who we're guessing is named after the character of the same name in the TV show 'Stargate SG1'.

Rya'c is a Jaffa and the son of Teal'c and his late wife Drey'auc, and was once brainwashed by Apophis and attempted to destroy all life on the planet, so quite a legacy to live up to there.

At what point does this stop being an homage to your favourite shows and start being child cruelty though? How many times will this lad have to deal with kids shouting 'Kree' at the shol'va who tried to kill us all?

Couldn't they have just called him Jack, or Daniel?

Editor's note:- Lilu wanted to call our lad Rya'c while she was pregnant, but I put my foot down, and now little Artoo is doing fine.

RE: Nick, Exeter.
I’ve owned money after I lost my job, and I’ve paid every penny back since then, we all have hard times, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have to pay!
If she has money locked up in a property. Then I’d recommend expediting proceedings with the solicitors and getting that cash and arranging for her ex husband who is surely liable to pay the costs from the time he was living there to contribute towards the outstanding bill.
£1.6k is a lot of money to have racked up in debts to the council.. How long has she not being paying her council tax for? Roughly that’s got to be around 1.5 years worth of tax?!
As for only paying half! I don’t think that’s reasonable at all, and if the council accepts that I will not be amused in the slightest, and as for anyone bailing her out of her costs, please get in contact.. I’d rather like a slice of the free money if it’s being handed out to anyone with a sob story.

On a slightly more controversial note..
If you can’t afford to pay the council tax, How are you going to afford to support a THIRD child?!

and after re-read.. i added this

oh my bad!

4th child on the way.
not paying council tax.
not paying income tax.

isn't that lovely.
this is why i think benefits should be allowed for 1-2 children tops.. and more in the event the 2nd child is infact twins/more.
