Plymouth jealous of our parades

01/07/09 - 2 comments

Plymouth's city council have got a right bee in their bonnet after it was announced that Exeter will host a major military parade celebrating the Royal Marines who have returned from Afghanistan.

City council leader Vivien Pengelly said Exeter "has nothing to do with the Royal Marines" and that "Plymouth is the spiritual home of the Royal Marines".

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said: "Friday's parade is to pay tribute to the whole task force that was deployed in Afghanistan including units from across the country and Cypress which were led by Plymouth's 3 Commando Brigade and it's an honour for Devon to be hosting it."

Sounds like two spoilt brats arguing over who gets to play with the best toys to us, especially as 45 Commando, based out of Arbroath will be taking part, and you don't hear them complaining.

It seems especially petty when you consider another parade is being held in Plymouth later in the year by Royal Marines and the UK Landing Force Command Support Group.

Didn't they have a parade for the marines yesterday? They want the bloody moon on a stick!

I'd rather watch the red arrows. They're ace.
