Echo defend sweary man

24/06/09 - 0 comments

The front page of today's Express and Echo is devoted to a major story that could affect all of us in our day-to-day lives: a man has been banned from Tesco for eating a bread-roll he hadn't bought.

Going with the snappy headline of 'Tesco ban for man who took bite out of roll' on their front page (and 'Exeter Tesco bans bread roll man' online, although according to the article he's been banned from all UK Tescos) the Echo tell of how the chap was thrown to the floor and beaten senseless for daring to nibble on a crusty roll, although one commenter on their website, who claims to have seen the whole 'ordeal', said:

"... the staff in this instance acted quietly and politely until the abuse from the young man began. The level of his raised voice and comments and disgusting language became offensive to the majority of the customers in the store. He certainly had no support [in] his actions from others."

Most people seem dead against people wandering the isles stuffing their faces and molesting the pastries, unless it's the only respite they're likely to get from a screaming child.

As for the claim he was treated like a terrorist, well, maybe shouting and screaming and generally acting like a spoilt brat in the middle of a busy shop isn't the best course of action when a store detective wants to have a quiet word.

The Echo's commenters do seem very unforgiving at the moment though, or should we just put that down to the paper being completely out of touch with it's readership?
