Sword ban has no teeth

07/05/09 - 0 comments

Despite the self-righteous indignation kicked up by the Express and Echo about banning samurai swords and fantasy weapons, a Barnstaple man accused of an attack with a Samurai sword has walked free from Exeter court.

It's alleged that the man involved in the incident had been drinking and after seeing the alleged victim in an altercation with his girlfriend he came out armed with a 3 foot plank, which was quickly taken from him, before acquiring a 'samurai' sword and setting about a little cosmetic surgery and home dentistry.

During the trial, the victim refused to testify, a witness forgot what he saw, and the accused, who had pleaded not guilty, was found not guilty by the jury, after directions from the judge, and released.

All in all a complete farce which could have been adequately bodged by the prosecution under existing assault laws.
