Exeter College reject student vote
0 commentsThe president of Exeter College Students' Union has told of how she had been informed by the Deputy Principal and the head of the College's Student Services that they "wouldn't work" with the duly elected Sabbatical President.
According to her Facebook group, Natalie Tremlett, the ECSU president 08-09, was told that the newly elected officer, Patrick Elsdon, had a low attendance record which makes him "not a good enough role model". This has not gone down well.
Miss Tremlett is currently awaiting a full written statement from the college, which was requested on Friday, so hopefully they'll have the full story some time on Monday.
The current administration of the union are worried that this could mean a withdrawal of their block grant and staff support, but until they get the statement they can not be sure where they stand.
One student claims the issue is a complete farce as people "only voted for him because he had better sweets" although the majority of posts indicate support for democratic process. One student says the collage has behaved "irresponsibly towards a legitimately elected officer".
The SU President is currently calling for people to join the group to show their support for the union. There's no indication if she's offering sweets.
