M&S to pull out of Exeter

01/04/09 - 1 comment

In a shocking move, M&S have announced they will be completely pulling their operations out of Exeter, becoming the largest retailer to withdraw from the city.

Marks and Spencer have said they will be closing both the city centre shop and the Simply Food outlet at the M5 services.

In a press release the company blamed the 'decreasing profitability' of the city centre which is attracting less shoppers with it's increasing amount of empty stores.

The most surprising part of the announcement is the closure of the Moto Services site which was recently completely refit and re-branded.

It's now unclear what will replace the landmark store in the High Street, but until further negotiations have been made, Oxfam will probably annex the building and start selling jumpers, old shoes and any other tat they can lay their hands on.

Early indications point towards Sainsburys eventually taking over the site. Like we need another one!
