DCC do something intelligent
0 commentsDevon County Council are investing £180 million in the local economy as part of a major school building initiative.
The council seem to have learnt from previous lessons and don't appear to be going to a penny pinching PFI, who would build the schools (cutting corners off playing fields and forgetting to have windows that open, the little things really) and renting them back to the council, leaving them with no land and no school at the end of the deal.
This time the money will be invested in the local community, using local firms and keeping the money spent in the local area (for local people!) and could actually help the economy rather than disappearing from an Icelandic bank.
The project includes £7.8 million to rebuild Montgomery primary school in St Thomas and £500,000 for a new youth centre in Exwick.
For once we can truly say "Good on 'em". Just please don't spunk it all up the wall by letting a committee make the important decisions.
