City centre evacuated again

28/11/08 - 2 comments

Exeter city centre has been evacuated again by police and a man has been detained, after a suspicious package was discovered.

Princesshay was completely cleared at around 12:15 and people were evacuated as far back as the O2 shop in the high street.

Everything is now open again as normal and this time there was no toilet damage.

The suspicious package has been removed by police for investigation, although the bomb squad are probably on their way down the M5 to blow 7 barrels of crap out of it in a field.

Update:
Turns out it was all a fuss over nothing. A suitcase was left in a doorway near Barclays bank, which some vigilant passer by reported to the feds. Looks like they're just a little jumpy after the last time.
