Drug arrests increase across the county

29/07/08 - 0 comments
Police have released figures that show the number of arrests for the possession of illegal drugs has risen 18% in Devon in the last year.

More than 2500 arrests were made in the last year, although we all know that there's only a 50% chance of being nicked in the first place, so the amount of drug offences is probably nearer 5000.

Plymouth seems to have been having a crackdown as arrests for possession with intent to supply rose from two in the year ending 2007 to 66 in the year ending 2008. A large amount of these are thought to be related to a nightclub which has since been closed, so next year's figures might go down slightly.

North and east Devon's arrest figures have nearly doubled for the same periods with 124 last year whilst south and west Devon have had arrests more than double to 94. They're obviously in need of dealers over there. Just make sure your road tax is up to date.

Devon and Cornwall police have said there is a "growing problem with heroin" which isn't surprising when the courts don't lock the buggers up any more.
