10 more city centre parking spaces lost in council confusion
0 commentsDevon County council are at it again, this time trying to confuse and frustrate drivers by changing the layouts of our roads in our fair city.
Bampfylde Street's parking spaces, which have been in place since 1989 (PDF), have been revoked by the council as they start mucking about with road priorities yet again.
The most confusing part of this work is that the signs put up by the council would indicate that the one-way direction of the street will change, from Cheeke Street to Summerland Street to Summerland Street to Cheeke Street.
That wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't already erased the markings and replaced them with a two way entrance to the street, as shown in this artist's impression (right).
Confused yet?
If the direction was indeed simply changing the flow of one way traffic, as the sign would suggest, then there's no need to remove the parking spaces as there is still plenty of room for single file traffic.
If the road is going to be a two way street, then clearly the wrong information is being displayed on these signs. Surely 'One Way restriction ends' would be the correct information to display?
