It's all go tonight

Only hours after police have reopened the city centre from today's bomb mayhem, and Sidwell street has been closed off again following a car crash outside the Duke of York.

At about 9:30pm there was an almighty screeching of tyres followed by an almighty ka-thump as a car blind-sided a poor pizza delivery driver (in the blue car on the left) spinning it out of the junction and imploding the front of the grey car.

We're guessing someone tried to skip the lights, and from the noise it made, that the grey car was going a little over the speed limit, but we must point out this is all conjecture. Word on the street has the occupants of the grey car making a swift getaway into the night, but we could be completely wrong.

(As it turns out, the grey car had been hot-wired, so we were pretty spot on - Ed)

Fire crews and police vehicles were on the scene in seconds, although if they were still hanging around Princesshay then they didn't have far to go.

Police closed the road in both directions and mopped up what was left of the steaming wreakages. Maybe we'll see this on Police, Camera, Action in a couple of months.

Sidwell Street was open to traffic again as of 10:50pm.

One day you might be able to drive through the city centre again, but if this keeps up Exeter City Council may as well just declare it a pedestrian zone and be done with it.

Update: You can read the Echo's indepth coverage here.
