Annual army airlift takes off

31/03/08
Another eighteen people have had a ride in a helicopter in part of the annual Ten Tors Airlift operations after being affected by drizzle and asthma.

The helicopter, based out of RMB Chivenor, took the youngsters back to their base of operations in Okehampton, although some were taken to Okehampton Community Hospital for triage and to be treated for various sprains.

Last year, after heady rainfall (on the moors? Never... - Ed) the event had to be called off and all 2,400 youngsters taking part got a free helicopter ride from the Army assisted by 700 volunteers and two Royal Navy helicopters.

The main event is due on the weekend of May 10th/11th, although they'll probably all get pulled off the moor yet again before anyone can get to the end.

Wind and rain on Dartmoor. Who would have thought it...
