Carillion up to their old tricks

07/03/08 - 0 comments
Who's bright idea was it to let money-grabbing investment bankers run our schools? In the latest example of a PFI trying to claw money out of the mouths of our children Carillion have raised the prices of school meals.

Pupils at St Peter's have start a boycott of the canteen to protest the prise hikes and are threatening to spread the boycott to other city schools.

Carillion's track record in our city's schools is pretty piss poor so far, if they're not trying to skimp on rugby pitches they're simply drowning and cooking children by the class-full. All this to make a profit.

In the olden bygone days of yore I'm sure schools were run with the primary goal of educating children, or is that considered a as being a communist agenda these days?

We say congratulations to the pupils of St Peters for standing up to the man and hitting him where it hurts, and most likely the only place that will make him take any notice of you lowly little people, the wallet.

In all likeliness Carillion will call foul and get the council to stump up and subsidise them to make up for lost earnings, because there's probably someone on the council with a vested interest in those stock holder payouts, but that could be us being cynical.

Carillion have also recently launched their School Meals Smart Card, which enables you to put all your money into Carillion's bank account to accrue interest instead of just using real money to pay for your lunch. What better way to get children used to living off credit cards than to give them a nice plastic card to swipe in order to get their meals. Of course there's a minimum £5 top up so you can't only add what you need.

Every little helps, eh?
