Police dump private data

27/12/07
For the last couple of months the country has been stunned by the incompetence of officials as millions of records of private data on learner drivers and receivers of child benefit, but now Devon and Cornwall Police have become the latest in a sting of identity offenders.

A disk containing names, addresses, telephone numbers and ranks of employees of Devon and Cornwall Police, along with firearms qualifications was found on a disk at the Exeter Recycling centre.

The disk was found in the drive of an old PC which had been sent for recycling. Hopefully the hard drives had been wiped, but it looks like this disk got through the net.

Assistant Chief Constable Bob Pennington apologised to staff and said the matter was being investigated.

At least it's not just the public that are feeling the effects of all these losses of private data. Still not very reassuring though.
