Council backs down over bad zebra
As we first reported 15 months ago, the original zebra crossing was badly placed and even though it encroached on the junction with Sidwell Street the boys at DCC decided they can do what they please, to hell with Government guidelines.
How the new set-up was worked out is another question altogether. Obviously a couple sets of traffic lights had to be included in the proposal, but the final product is a wonder to behold.
The crossing itself has been mysteriously moved a couple of meters away from the main junction, we're guessing that the regulations on light controlled pedestrian crossings are a bit more stringent and can't just be ignored willy nilly.
Let's hope these are going to be a little more reliable than the rest of the lights installed in this city, as most seem to require major repairs when they stop working mere days after installation.
The new lights are now in-line with the random-ass lights on Summerland street and far more confusing for everyone involved. Job done.
