IT'S NOT FUCKING CHRISTMAS!

13/11/07 - 0 comments

Tonight the council are once again starting their Christmas season with the lighting up of the festive three days earlier than last year, proving once and for all that Christmas is creeping earlier and earlier each year.

This year, instead of getting someone famous in to do the deal they've simply plumped for the Hazel Slack, Exeter's Lord Mayor, although it's unclear if she will be requesting that believers in all false faiths don't come and enjoy the festivities laid on just for the Christian celebration.

On the bright side, it could have been a lot worse. Having been deemed not enough of a celebrity to get dumped in the jungle it could have been Katie Hopkins flicking the switch. I think you'll all agree that that would have been a travesty and a crime against humanity, although it's still not too late to dump her in a jungle somewhere...

This year there will be a whole host of new lights being erected in the High Street, South Street, Gandy Street, Queen Street, Fore Street and Castle Street featuring "more than 500 flashing bulbs". Are you suitably impressed? Are you?

The ice rink will be back once again this year, this time in Exeter Castle, at the top of Castle street (or if you're from Burnthouse Lane, where the old courthouse used to be). If you want a map, then check out the Exeter Council page which is especially unhelpful.

If you're feeling sad and lonely this Christmas then there's a special 'Skate & Date' night on the 26 November 2007 from 7 till 9pm, although if you could avoid taking the woman of your dreams home and smashing her head in with a brick it would be greatly appreciated.

The usual late night shopping will be starting from the 22nd (that's a bit more like) in Harlequins and most of the High Street and every Thursday up until the dreaded date itself.
