Offensive my arse

A massive brouhaha has been kicked up about the latest window display in Allsaints, in the new Princesshay centre because the clothes are being modelled on 'headless black people, being hung from chains', apparently.

The retailer has been accused of racism and bad taste as the headless dummies, with chains attached to the neck, dangling with their feet a few inches off the floor.

The Allsaints store has been modelled on an industrial theme, bare welded metal exposed all over the place with an old and scuffed wooden shop floor. Quite in contrast to the rest of the sparkling and shiny shop fronts on display.

The Rural Racism Project says it has been "inundated" with complaints calling for it to be removed and even the local fuzz went out to the store to see what all the fuss was about.

Police found that the dummies were in fact dummies and not the dead, headless remains of South African dissidents brought over as slaves but who died during transport.

A spokesman for Allsaints said: "We used them because they look good in our stores, and not to represent any race.

"We are not the only store to use headless mannequins, and chains are used throughout our shops for various purposes.

"They go with our rock and roll image."

The display has also drawn criticism from the Samaritans after a complaint from a woman whose uncle hanged himself.

We presume he didn't decapitate himself first as this makes attaching a noose especially difficult, although it's unclear if her uncle was made of grey plastic or not.

I guess she won't be reading any of the Harry Potter books or going out this Halloween either.
