Council wastes more money

14/09/06 - 0 comments
Devon's Highway Operations Control Centre has just been given a £300,000 refit, yet a pregnant woman had to have a police escort to get to the hospital last night.

Based at County Hall in Exeter, the control centre is supposed to use the county's roadside weather stations, closed circuit television and numerous webcams to help regulate traffic in the region.

It was too little too late for Nicky Crowhurst and her husband Jan Whitechurch, as they had to flag down a passing police car to get through the back-logged traffic.

Savannah Whitechurch arrived at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital no thanks to the control centre. The couple thanked the police saying "They could not have done more. It was above and beyond the call of duty."
