And they let them drive buses?

15/10/07 - 0 comments

Almost half of all Devon bus drivers have needed to improve their customer relations and literacy or maths skills as the the dozens of foreign bus drivers and engineers in Exeter from Poland, Slovakia, India and Pakistan had difficulty understanding their customers.

Stagecoach's Peter McIver, who is himself taking a European computer driving licence course (what the hell? - Ed), is coordinating the training and said 405 out of 950 staff had No Valid Qualifications.

Mr McIver went on to say that all staff would get qualifications equivalent to five GCSEs, we just hope they're not being sent to St. James'.

"A lot of our staff didn't have any qualifications apart from their driving licence when they came to us, so it's extraordinarily nice to hand a certificate to someone who's never had one before."

One employee has been on a vehicle recognition course and can now tell the difference between buses, cars, lorries and even motor-cycles.

Well done you.
