It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt

14/09/07
In scenes almost worthy of a Darwin award, Exeter student James Gould broke his neck trying to back flip off a trampoline into a swimming pool.

The 17-year-old photography student is now in the intensive care unit at the RD&E and has had a metal rod inserted in his neck.

It's unclear if he was attempting to flip into a full size pool or a paddling pool, but his mum said "He did a back flip into one of these pools and landed on his back and broke his neck" so it's probably an inflatable jobbie.

One positive that's come out of his situation is all the cute young things leaving him messages of support on his Myspace page, and although his future 'will involve wheelchairs' he says he's going to make the best of it.

We wish him all the best with his recovery and his ambitions to be an extreme sports photographer.
