Parking Nazis on the prowl
WJ Parking, who's watchwords are 'Enforcement' and 'Income Generation' are clawing in money hand over fist from the good folk of Exeter, charging £60 in fines for having a ticket upside down. If you want to appeal, then you'll have to pay your fine before you can make your appeal, although once you've paid, as far as they're concerned the matter's considered closed.
The company slogan is "Making waves in car park solutions" and they sure seem to be succeeding on that front.
Part of the problem is when WJ Parking move in on a territory they put up the pay and display machines and paint the lines in 'at no cost to the client'. Because of this it's got a vested interest in 'income generation' in order to get it's money back.
On their website they seem to be proud of this, stating the redevelopment of Central Station's front parking area as an example of using "a fixed penalty scheme, and a vehicle immobilisation scheme to [...] maximise income generation."
Again, WJ Parking picked up the costs of redevelopment, so that's yet another place you're more likely to get ticketed and clamped for staying that extra 5 minutes all because they're running the car park to make a profit, not just to provide a convenience to the customers of the businesses that hired them.
Bastards.
