Stagecoach bus leaves on time

01/09/07
In a shocking turn of events it has been revealed that a Stagecoach bus actually left the Exeter bus station on time on August 13th.

At about 10.30pm a driver boarded the bus, signed the log sheet, started the engine and started reversing. It was at this point that things started to go wrong however.

It turns out that the man behind the wheel was not the designated Stagecoach driver, but a pissed up, unlicensed bus enthusiast who thought he could do a better job than the normal driver, who was in the canteen having some pies at the time.

After backing up about 10ft Mr Millgate, 56, of Teignmouth drove forward smashing into one of the large metal bollards and damaging the bus, much to the surprise of the 3 passengers who were already on board.

"The gentleman who was driving was shabbily dressed and wreaked of booze, so at first we had no idea there was anything awry" said one of the passengers, "but when the bus left on time we knew something wasn't right".

Millgate had been wearing an old Stagecoach uniform that had been given to him as a gift by staff at the station in Paris Street. He was regularly seen at Exeter bus station and was well-known by the drivers who had befriended him, and was also an associated member at the social club near the bus station.
