Indecent exposure

29/08/07
The Mary Whitehouse brigade have been out again in Exeter, as the ASA received 2 (count them, 2) complaints about a mobile advert for the Ann Summers in the high street.

The internet is a wonderful thing, and using the private investigational services of Google we tracked down one of those two folk.

Calling himself Lord Manley, the 32-year-old claims a success in his crusade against indecency, stating: "The ASA have upheld my complaint, stating that the[y] consider that the pose of the model when used in conjunction with the sexual innuendo of 'Making Devon Cream' is likely to cause serious and widespread offence."

The ASA seem to have decided exactly the opposite and had not upheld the complaint.

"The ASA [...] acknowledged that the ad was unlikely to be understood by children. We considered that, although the pose of the model and the sexual innuendo of "Making Devon Cream" might be distasteful to some, it was unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence.

All this from someone who writes a blog entitled 'Having a poo', a site devoted to bowl movements and other scatological finds. How someone who records his bowel movements for fun and profit can be offended by this kind of ad campaign is beyond us.

And be warned, his page entitled Placenta party is more than likely to put off the more squeamish of our readers.
