Exeter goes hi-res

05/07/07 - 0 comments
Ever since Google created their Google Earth application some areas of the globe have been a greeny-grey blur whilst others have been bright and shiney. Exeter has, until now, been in this first camp.

If you take a look at Exeter now on their online globe you can now see the cathedral in its full glory from the air, and probably your home too.

Mapping sites like Multimap have had better detail than previous incarnations of Google maps, but this latest update has included much higher resolution images enabling you to see individual houses, cars and the occasional pedestrian.

There is one limitation however. The maps presented on all the sites do seem to be stuck firmly pre-2000. You can see the old MFI car-park as well as the pre-construction Princesshay.

Microsoft have done a more extensive job however, with their 'Live Maps' which seem a lot more up to date, including a partly constructed Princesshey, updated shortly before the Vue opened, and viewable from almost any angle.

If you want a walk down memory lane, take a look on Google, if you're more interested in what Exeter looks like now (well, about 6 months ago) then take a gander at MSN Live.

Who needs some bod from the Echo and his big chopper when you have the internet...
