Exeter's Moto Services were experimenting with a rather cunning ruse to attract shoppers on Friday. By keeping the lights on the new junction red and preventing people from leaving, they created a long queue of hot and irate drivers.

Even at 4pm, when the site usually has a few stragglers still trying to get somewhere, the service station was packed, with people queueing for food and refreshment 6 deep.

Ironically, if you had run out of petrol outside the services, you could get in, fill up a can and get back out to your abandoned vehicle faster than actually driving to the pumps and back.

Irate drivers were waiting over an hour to chance their arm with the new lights, in a desperate attempt at escape. Moto clearly missed an opportunity to get their staff walking the traffic queue with ice-creams and cool water bottles.
