Military keep their mouths shut

13/04/07 - 0 comments
Royal Marines from Devon are returning home after a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan and are to keep their bloody mouths shut.

Plymouth-based 42 Commando has been part of joint operations in the Helmand Battle Group dealing with Taliban fighters but are able to do their jobs and not yap on endlessly to the Sun about their experiences.

Four marines from the 42 Commando were killed during the deployment and the seventy remaining members of the unit are due home soon.

These are the guys who faced armed combatants, who were shot at by opportunists on a regular basis, the guys who's story it would actually be worth reading, but in keeping with military rulings they will not be selling their stories for 6 figure sums.

Why anyone would want to read about a bunch of sailors who gave themselves up as soon as they were noticed and spent a week supping tea with the Iranians (a country we're not even at war with) is unclear, but I guess people who read the Sun will read any old twaddle.
