Saying 'No' to trained killers
0 commentsWhilst most members of Her Majesties Services are highly trained professionals, it seems that the entry standards seem to drop considerably when there's a war on.
Unfortunately for today's forces, the dross that's training to be tomorrow's front-line are letting the side down, letting their friends down and worst of all, letting themselves down.
Exeter isn't the first place to ban squaddies and other service-men from their drinking establishments however. A Walkabout in Liverpool turned away aggressive service personnel and have an ongoing policy of not allowing entry to anyone in uniform [1], although we're not sure if that applies to nurses and firemen.
In Aldershot, a town well known for it's connection to the military there are pubs specifically designated for squaddies in which few residents dare tread, purely because of the reputation.
These guys are trained to be aggressive, it's encouraged in what is a highly charged and dangerous environment. When most of the population of this fair town end up in fisticuffs outside Kentucky at two in the morning, the worst that can happen is someone ends up in casualty, if you're trained in hand-to-hand combat, well, you can see where this is going.
We've got nothing against marines/squaddies/para's (delete as appropriate) but lets face it, a small minority of them can be complete assholes, and who's willing to take the chance?
