Dark side of the moon

02/03/07 - 0 comments
This Saturday night (3 March) is a full lunar eclipse in the UK; the full moon will pass through the Earth's shadow, leaving it illuminated with just the light refracted through the Earth's atmosphere, at this point it can take on a hue anywhere from a dull grey to a copper-red.

It should be noted that those of you from Tiverton will not need to sacrifice your first born in a ceremony to the Gods in order to stop the world coming to an end, although it's probably a good idea, just to be on the safe side.

The full moon will be rising in the south-east, and at about 8pm will start to move into the Earths shadow and begin to take on a brown/red hue, from 9:30 to 10:45 it will be moving into the total shadow, and will stay there until just before midnight when it will start passing into partial shadow again. By half past two in the morning the event will be pretty much over.

Weather forecast gives little clue as to whether Exeter skies will be clear, but we're pretty hopefull.

Best of luck to anyone else that'll be sat in the cold looking at the sky, and if you get any pictures, why not send them in?
