Local backlash against the Echo (Updated)

22/02/07 - 0 comments
After a long string of moral crusades - the latest being a large front page attack on the new Lap-dancing club owner, the Express & Echo is set to be recognised by the world's major religions as 'Holier Than Thou'.

The Echo has lambasted Julie Eyre after sending a reporter with a hidden camera to meet with her under the guise of a hard up office temp.

After a 45 minute meeting, all they had to go on was a few tidbits of information on how to minimise payable tax, that bankruptcy is an easy way out of debt (it certainly helps) and that the owner could "get in touch with the owner of a 'massage parlour'".

Comments on the paper's website show a different view however. The story is best summed up by Sarah from Exeter:

"Entrapment at best, nothing better than gutter press reporting and extremely hypocritical considering the many paid adverts on page 50 of your newspaper under the personal services section. Good luck to the owners and welcome to the 21st century Exeter".

The self-promoting rag regularly prints Campaign articles on the front page about some 'human interest' story the editor has got a bee in his bonnet about, only to be followed a few days later with another front page declaring how the E&E has heroically upheld the rights of the 'local community', usually only of interest of a select few.

Update
It seems that the Echo are unwilling to listen to it's readers. The comments section has now been removed from all articles relating to the strip club.

Cllr Norman Shiel, Lord Mayor of Exeter has also come out backing the club, stating he "really can't see the problem, that is my personal view. If it works, good luck to them."
