Bomb leaves massive crater in Burnthouse Lane

08/02/07 - 0 comments
A German shell from the 1942 air raids went off in Burnthouse Lane leaving major structural damage to many houses.

Initial reports stated there was a bright flash and that the ground shook, there were hopes that it had been nuked by those crazy Chinese, but it turned out to have just been a shell from the war.

Once the dust and rubble had settled, those cheerful Laners began the job of clearing the wreckage and opening the newly created swimming pool.

This is not the first incident in the area, in 1929 it's believed a cottage caught fire and burnt to the ground, giving the site it's name.

It's unclear if it was Jobseekers who torched the cottage.
