Hundreds dead in motorway tragedy

Around five hundred have been killed after a high-speed accident on a Hungarian motorway involving a large container truck.

More alarmingly thousands of witnesses are reported to have fled the scene after the lorry overturned on the M1 between Budapest and Vienna.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours while clear-up efforts continue and motorists have been diverted on to alternative routes.
