Lonely man brought donkey to hotel room
Thomas Aloysius McCarney was charged with cruelty to animals, lewd and obscene behaviour, and with being a danger to himself. He was also charged with damage to a mini-bar in the room, but this was later dropped when it was discovered that the donkey had caused that damage.
Apparently Mr McCarney's wife had recently left him and he had been advised to get out and meet new people and do interesting things. It didn't help that he had a fixation with the Shrek movies and would talk to himself at work, saying things like "Isn't that right Donkey?", although we can't remember Shrek ever taking Donkey to a hotel and trying to bugger him.
Mr McCarney even signed into the hotel as "Mr Shrek" after convincing the receptionist (a Ms Legova) that the donkey was a breed of super-rabbit and a family pet.
The donkey is said to have gone mental during the night and run away down the hotel corridors, leaving Mr McCarney in the room wearing a latex suit and handcuffs, the key to which the donkey is thought to have swallowed.
A spokesman for the hotel said "Sadly Ms Legova has now gone into hiding following the incident. The man at the centre of the case, Mr McCarney was heavily fined and is rumoured to now be bankrupt.
"But, most importantly, we have highlighted a serious issues. Donkey crimes like this are all too common in Ireland's west. The gardaí have intensified their efforts to stop this horrible abuse. We were just glad we could bring it to the people."
