Tesco battles obesity

25/08/06 - 0 comments

This week the supermarket chain Tesco have unveiled an plan to prevent obesity taking hold in this country. From this weekend, shoppers will not be able to buy more than 6 items from any of their chains nationwide.

The scheme, piloted this week in the Exe Vale store, hopes to stop people from eating as much, or at least having to make two trips and work out a little in the process. The car parks have also been move 1/4 mile away from the stores to enable people to work up a sweat on the way back to their cars.

One woman, from Beacon Heath, was not so enthusiastic about the idea. "I am likely to buy more than six", she said, "loaves of bread, Coca-Cola, tins of spaghetti, baked beans and meatballs, all that sort of stuff. I sometimes have three trolleys of food."

A spokesman for Sainsbury's said that they had originally come up with the idea, but Tesco had stolen it from an office which had been left unlocked.
