Plympton man banned from walking his owl
0 commentsRussell Burt, 74, has been banned by Plymouth City Council from taking his owls out for a walk during the day after a complaint from a resident.
Mr Burt was 'approached' by police after a member of the public complained that his birds should be asleep during the day.
The police then reported him to the city council, who then sent out a dog warden to check up on things with a couple of vans, ready to take these birds away to be destroyed presumably.
The birds have visited care homes and shows around the region with Mr Burt, who does not accept payment but is more than happy to suggest a donation is made to the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust.
We're guessing someone had a bad experience with an owl in their childhood and seeing a man walking around with an owl on his shoulder gives them the shivers. Either that or they think he's a pirate.
A city council spokesperson said they were worried about what could happen with a "spooked bird of prey running amok on a highway". We can see it already, owls circling the city centre, tossing cars around, flying off with cyclists between it's claws. Terrifying stuff indeed.
